Facebook acquires WhatsApp for $19 billion
In one of the largest technology acquisitions in history, Facebook announced today that it will acquire the popular mobile messaging service WhatsApp for approximately $19 billion in cash and stock. The deal includes $4 billion in cash and $12 billion in Facebook shares, plus an additional $3 billion in restricted stock units for WhatsApp employees. Satya Nadella named Microsoft CEO
Microsoft has appointed Satya Nadella as its new chief executive officer, ending a five-month search to replace Steve Ballmer. iOS 7.1 beta 5 released to developers
Apple has seeded the fifth beta of iOS 7.1 to registered developers for testing. Pebble Steel review: a smarter smartwatch
Pebble has expanded its smartwatch lineup with the launch of the Pebble Steel, a premium version of its original e-paper smartwatch. The Steel features a stainless steel body with a leather band, a significant upgrade from the plastic construction of the first Pebble. It retains the same 1.26-inch e-paper display, which offers excellent readability in sunlight and long battery life of up to a week. The Pebble Steel pairs with iOS and Android devices via Bluetooth and displays notifications for calls, texts, emails, and apps. Sony Xperia Z2 leaks: 5.2-inch display, Snapdragon 801
Ahead of its expected debut at Mobile World Congress, Sony's next flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z2, has leaked in official-looking press renders. Mozilla announces $25 Firefox OS smartphone
At Mobile World Congress, Mozilla announced a partnership with Chinese chipmaker Spreadtrum to develop a $25 smartphone running Firefox OS. Tesla Model S gets titanium underbody shield and software update
Tesla Motors has announced a series of updates for its Model S electric sedan, including the addition of a titanium underbody shield designed to protect the battery pack from road debris. The move comes after two separate incidents in which Model S vehicles caught fire after striking objects on the road.
